Complete bathroom renovations in Chiswick

Chiswick has an unusual mix of homes for one postcode: Bedford Park and Grove Park houses, Glebe Estate cottages, mansion blocks along the High Road and riverside flats at Strand-on-the-Green. BathWright carries out complete bathroom renovations across Chiswick, with layout advice, flexible product supply and a written quotation describing the agreed work. You deal directly with the owner, who has 20 years of hands-on experience and coordinates the team through to handover.

Chiswick homes and the bathrooms that come with them

Bedford Park houses from the 1870s and 1880s, Victorian villas in Grove Park and the smaller terraces of the Glebe Estate usually have bathrooms added or altered more than once over the years, often in a rear addition with a timber floor and the soil pipe on the outside wall. Those rooms reward careful planning: where the shower goes, whether a bath is still wanted, and how to add storage without losing light. Period features such as sash windows and original floorboards next to the bathroom are worth protecting during the strip-out, and we plan for that.

Mansion flats and newer blocks on and around Chiswick High Road are a different job: concrete floors, bathrooms that are often internal with no window, and a shared soil stack that belongs to the building. Ventilation, the route for new pipework and what the lease allows are the first questions, and the building manager's rules on hours and deliveries shape the programme.

A completed Chiswick bathroom

Our Chiswick bathroom renovation was a full strip-out and rebuild completed in three weeks: blue metro tiles to half height with white metro tiles above, a navy vanity and WC unit and a shower bath with a glass screen, a layout that keeps a bath for the household and a proper shower in the same footprint. The photographs show the finished room and the stages on site. Your own quotation will reflect your room, but the project shows the standard of finish you can expect.

What a Chiswick quotation covers

The site visit is where the scope is agreed. We discuss the layout, the condition of the existing bathroom, the products you are considering and the access route, including stairs and any lift. The written quotation describes the agreed work and distinguishes the materials and products we supply from those you buy yourself. You can source your own tiles and fittings or ask us to supply them, and if you want a separate designer we can recommend one, with their fees agreed separately.

Two councils, conservation areas and Article 4 in Chiswick

Most of Chiswick is in the London Borough of Hounslow, whose published conservation area maps include Bedford Park, Old Chiswick, Strand on the Green and others; the western part of Bedford Park is in the London Borough of Ealing and has Article 4 directions covering external alterations to houses. A bathroom renovation is internal work, so these designations normally only matter if the project adds or changes a window, a rooflight or an external flue or vent. Check the individual address rather than assuming from the street name. See Hounslow Council: conservation area appraisals and maps and Ealing Council: Article 4 directions.

Much of Chiswick is in controlled parking zones. A skip on the road needs a licence from the relevant council and a parking bay used for deliveries needs a suspension booked in advance; we plan this with you before the start date. Local information last checked: 9 October 2026. Check the council's current information for your property before relying on it.

Budget and timescale for a Chiswick bathroom

Allow around £15,000–£25,000 as a total budget for a complete bathroom renovation, covering labour, building materials, tiles, bathroom fittings and finishes. Products you buy yourself are part of this total. This is a planning range, not a minimum spend or a fixed quotation. Room size, layout and product choices affect the cost. Tell us your budget so we can discuss what is achievable after a free site visit.

Bathroom renovations typically take 2–4 weeks on site, depending on scope; the Chiswick project above took three. Preparation, ordering and the start date are discussed separately. If you intend to live at home during the work, tell us which facilities will be available so practical arrangements can be made.

Before we begin

A few useful answers.

Can you keep a bath and add a proper shower in a Chiswick terrace bathroom?

Usually, yes. A shower bath with a glass screen, as in our Chiswick project, keeps a bath for the household and gives a full-size shower in the same footprint. If the room allows, a separate walk-in shower is the alternative; we discuss both at the site visit.

My Chiswick flat has an internal bathroom with no window. Is that a problem?

No, but ventilation has to be planned properly: an extractor with a ducted route to the outside, sized for the room, and positioned so it is not in the shower zone. In a mansion block we also check the building's rules on ducting and the shared soil stack before the layout is confirmed.

Does a Chiswick conservation area affect an internal bathroom renovation?

Not normally. Conservation area and Article 4 rules in Chiswick apply to external changes such as new windows, rooflights or flues. If your project includes one, we flag it before the scope is agreed, and you confirm the position with Hounslow or Ealing Council for the individual address.

Which council covers my Chiswick address?

Most of Chiswick is in the London Borough of Hounslow. The western part of Bedford Park, towards Acton Green, is in the London Borough of Ealing. Your council tax bill or the address lookup on each council's website confirms which applies; skip licences and parking suspensions come from that council.

How do I arrange a bathroom quotation in Chiswick?

Contact us with your postcode, a description of the room and the changes you have in mind, plus your overall budget and preferred timing if known. We arrange a free site visit before preparing a written quotation.
